TRX is a global transaction processing company that counts travel agencies and suppliers, government agencies, credit card issuing banks, and corporations among its customers.

The company is one of two public companies on our list this year. Its president, CEO and co-founder is an expert at travel industry technology, Trip Davis.

Formerly with ESPN, Landmark (which owns the Weather Channel and the Travel Channel) as well as the once-mighty Atlanta technology company iXL, Trip opened the company in 1999. He took it public in 2005.

With 800 employees in eight locations, TRX's customers include American Airlines, British Airways, American Express and MasterCard.

A grad of the Darden Business School at Virginia, Trip focuses on growing his management team's skills by sending the top 50 to the leadership training program at the Center for Creative Leadership each year.

Up next for TRX: expanding transaction processing to other verticals and growing its data reporting business.
