Reading over the accomplishments of our eighth ranked honoree, it seems clear that sometimes
success is part of a person's DNA all along.
Tom Golub sold encyclopedias door-to-door to pay for college; he was a triathlete
until he was struck by a car while riding. He spent 19 years at the risk management company, the
Hobbs Group, learning the business and part of the team that grew annual revenues from $3 million
to $19 million.
Today, Tom is president and CEO of
Beecher Carlson, a fast growing insurance and risk management company. They've
enjoyed triple digit growth over the past three years – half of it organically and half through
acquisition.
They are one of the most vertically focused companies in their space.
For help with another point of view, Tom taps a network of a half dozen or so mentors
individually once a year and gets their counsel over lunch. A little known fact about Tom: He
bought a race horse, though he knows nothing about horses or racing.
