(14) Steven Vicinanza

CEO, Blue Wave Computing

October 15, 2007

It's reassuring to know that a mistake in business won't necessarily kill you. A do-over is possible, and in fact, might be the key to success. At number 14 on our list, BlueWave Computing reinvented and ignited its growth.

Steven Vicinanza's company was born to provide consultants who could make IT work better for big companies. After all, it had worked fine for Steven's former employer EDS. Trouble was, that market was already being well served.

One of his mentors suggested refocusing on a different, in fact, far larger market: small to midsize businesses, where more than 95 percent of employees work. BlueWave's services are designed to help companies technology assets run more reliably, with predictable costs.

A guitar player by night and CEO by day, Steven Vicinanza and his Blue Wave Computing is rocking and rolling, growing  20-to-40 percent a year, and now, on its 10th anniversary, is taking the business model to other markets. They've secured the highest level of certification now from Microsoft.
