President, Knowledgestorm

Number 20 on our list this year is Knowledgestorm, the place where technology buyers visit on the Web to learn about which solutions are the right ones.

Its president is Kelly Gay, who graduated from Tulane magma cum laude and spent nearly 20 years at IBM, most recently as head of their North American Media and Entertainment Division. She joined KnowledgeStorm in 2000.

The company's rapid growth has come by attracting hundreds of customers, like Oracle, Symantec, and M1 to place their content on Knowledgestorm's deep vertical search and marketing engine. The company is venture backed — which means the pressure is always there for big returns.

Under her watch, Knowledgestorm has been named to the Inc. 500 and Deloitte Technology Fast 500.  What about mentors? "It's everyone's responsibility to find a mentor in their work,” she says.

While we can't say we've had any, we hear she's an excellent cook. Specialties? Apple pie and lasagna.
