5 Questions with D. Keith Calhoun, CEO, Purchasing Power

Purchasing Power is a voluntary benefits company that allows employees to affordably purchase life enhancing products – such as personal computers – by utilizing payroll deductions as repayment method. They initially started by pitching the product directly to companies, but discovered that selling to the insurance brokers and consultants who present comprehensive benefits to companies was more effective. Through this route they got into several Fortune 500 companies and also got a fair amount of business in hospitals, governments and municipalities.

Keith came up with the idea for Purchasing Power during a fly fishing trip in the North Georgia Mountains. Excited to get his ideas progressing, he wrote the sales strategy outline on a paper napkin while sitting at lunch after the trip.

Since that initial fishing trip, Keith is happy to say he has had the assistance of many talented people to actually create a business model on something more than a napkin.
