Passion: Is It In You?

Sales and Networking

June 27, 2008

Recently, I listened to a great speech by John Smoltz, the popular pitcher for the Atlanta Braves. The future Hall of Famer got me thinking when he reminded the audience about the popular Gatorade commercial. Have you or heard the famous slogan, "Is it in you?" I started thinking about passion and the popular sports drink.

Is passion in you?

In 10, 20 or 30 years, what will your business be worth? Will you be in a position to sell and retire in financial comfort or start a new business initiative? A business is built on passion, and enthusiasm may be the ticket to wealth and financial security. Why not go for it? You would be amazed at what happens when you find your passion.

Determine what you truly love doing. Decide what is it that you love to do and have achieved success. Do you have the talent and skill in the profession that you enjoy? Look back at the last month. What activities gave you the most joy and happiness?

Likewise, what produced the most excitement and satisfaction for you during the last twelve months of your business? Now, close your eyes and dream for a minute. Does your current business support your passion? Describe five or 10 things that you appreciate in your business. What service or job would you do for free?

Work in your passion. You will become a woman or man on fire. New ideas and strategies will magically come to you. You will discover your genius and your clients will see it too. Opportunities will be created for you. Positive things will begin to happen for you when you work in your passion.

You will find unlimited creativity and success if you step out on faith and passion. Do not be afraid to walk in faith. You will discover your joy and happiness. Success will be your destination. You will discover newfound strength and stamina. You will be more enthusiastic and energized. You will become more passionate about what you do.

Prospective clients and strategic partners will be attracted to you and want to work with you. They will be convinced that you are the best strategic partner for them.

How do your clients, friends, business associates recognize you? Do they see you as a resource? Do they see you and your company as a viable business solution? Are you ever asked – or even considered – to speak at an event? Do people define you by your passion, vision, mission and uniqueness?

Does your business really support your passion? When no one believes in your dream, that is when need your passion. When your friends and relatives try to sell you on their dreams and not support you, seek your passion. When your mortgage is one month passed due, find your passion. When oatmeal is your staple for dinner and not breakfast, discover your passion. Will you quit and surrender to the pressures of business? Become your passion.

So when you watch the Gatorade commercial "Is it in you," perhaps it will remind you of your passion. Can you find your passion? Is it difficult for you? If it’s not there, find out what it is that will ignite your fire.

Find your passion.

Ask Oprah Winfrey. Read about Jack Welch. Watch Venus and Serena Williams on the tennis courts. Study Rush Limbaugh. Look at some of the most successful companies today: Google, Starbucks and Microsoft. Have you listened to a Tyler Perry interview?

It’s all about passion.

You will find more opportunities and create more opportunities, if you discover your true passion.

Is it in you?
