Much like the local companies in the latest Catalyst feature story, "
Road Rage,"
the Gwinnett County DMV is also moving to a four-day work week. The $4-a-gallon fuel cost may be
the reason for the change, but I suspect the four-day work week will stick, and may continue to
shift even more.
“Yes, there certainly are a number of customer-facing roles for which you clearly have to be
available when the customers are there,” writes Tammy Erickson in Harvard Business. “But an
increasing proportion of the economy is comprised of work that is individually paced. We may confer
with colleagues to get input, but for more and more of us, a colleague’s decision to take the day
off will have little direct affect on our immediate productivity.” Read more from Erickson
