If you’re a local business – as opposed to national or global – do you still need a website to capture new customers? Is word of mouth enough?

A surprising 47 percent of small businesses that only operate locally do not have a website. But they could be missing important customers, writes Paula Hay. Search engines have changed the way people look for products and services, and that means whether they’re looking for something in another country or down the street. And search engines have replaced the Yellow Pages for many people, especially younger demographics.
